The Laboratory of Allergology and Immunology within the Department of Pediatric Pneumology, Allergology Neonatology headed by Prof. Dr. Gesine Hansen offers the position of a Scientific Head of research group
The scientific head of the research group of Prof. Hansen will operate at the interface between scientists, the technical staff, the scientific manager and the institute's director. The tasks include in particular the management of the scientific staff such as reviewing manuscrpits, congress contributions and proposals. With her/his creative mind the scientific head develops new ideas for scientific projects acquires third-party funding. She/he monitors and organizes the work of the technical staff, ensures that members comply with all laboratory rules and regulations, including health and safety policies, to guarantee the highest quality of resultas.
The scientific head of the research group will also work scientifically in the field of RSV research. As part of the Exzellence Cluster RESIST (“Resolving Infection Susceptibility”), the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) and other national and international networks we aim to expand the understanding of the immunological mechanisms of RSV infection in very young children in order to develop new preventive and therapeutic approaches for this often life threatening infant infection. Analyses are performed in vivo in murine models and in vitro with biosamples of a clinical cohort of young children with severe RSV infection.
The laboratory is located in the modern Pediatric Research Center directly next to the Department of Pediatrics promoting translational research and hosts state of the art equipment for cellular, immunological research including biosafety level 1 to level 3 facilities. We use a wide range of molecular methodologies including but not limited to deep phenotyping of cells by FACS analysis, chipcytometry, single cell sequencing, transcriptomics, cytokine measurements and well established murine models.
Candidates should have successfully completed a university degree in biology, medicine, or a related subject and should have acquired a PhD in immunology, virology or pneumology or a related field. The candidate should have at least 3 years of professional experience as a PostDoc in a scientific environment, in which experience as group leader would be advantageous. A scientific background in the area of immunology, especially T, B and DC cell immunology or virology is a prerequisite. They should have very good oral and written language skills in German and English. She/he should have strong organizing, communication and presentation skills, and a solid background in typical immunological, molecular and cell biological methods.
